Top 10 Best Laptops for College Students in 2019 [With Buyer’s Guide]16 mins read

Being a college student can be very expensive ranging from tuition, books, feeding rent, and the list goes on and on. Saving up cash for a new laptop when you are trying to study can be difficult. So the best laptops for college student don’t need to be the latest and greatest processors and graphics. What is more important is that it gets to do the job you want it to do.

College is indeed a stressful time for everyone, but the right tool is worth the price if it’ll help you earn your degree cert with less stress.

How to choose a suitable laptop as a student

What are the important things I should look for when I want to buy a laptop?? This is a vital question as not every site cares about you. They are just interested in your money. I believe in having knowledge first, before carrying any operation. When you have the right knowledge about buying a laptop, it will be easier to make concrete decisions as it satisfies all or most criteria.

Size

When it comes to deciding which laptop to go for as a student, the most critical factor is the size.

If you disregard the size now, you possibly will regret buying it in the long run. I advise you to go for a very portable laptop that can be carried without stress and has little weight.

With this, you can carry it anywhere for lectures, projects, solving an assignment together etc. So which size do you want? Another vital factor is how it functions when it comes to multitasking. We will look at this in the next heading.

CPU

Think of Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9. The Intel core offers the best performance when it comes to multitasking and multimedia tasks. Core I3 is okay if you’re on a low budget but if you aren’t, you should go for core I5. Core I5 are very good for multitasking and high-end gaming. Who doesn’t like games?

In case you prioritize multitasking, and you have the cash, then go for core i7. It really will satisfy your quest for a laptop that can multitask and not slow down.

But what if I love games and I don’t have the money to get the core i7? There’s no problem with you to go for Core i5.

Screen Quality

Hmm! I already know about screen quality – I don’t think I need any more information on that. Wait a minute. Technology has advanced as well as using electronic devices such as mobile and laptops has increased too. You wouldn’t want to buy a laptop whose screen is not appealing to the eyes.

You also wouldn’t want to buy screens that do not have viewing angles. What I mean by viewing angles is ‘the ability to view the screen from different positions. You might be surrounded by your friends who are looking at the laptop but viewing from different angles.

It will be absurd when everyone must come to the middle of the screen in order to get a clear view. A laptop screen that has IPS (in-plane switching) technology offers the best user comfort. Checking the viewing angles before you buy.

Keyboard quality

Why is the keyboard important?

Having a keyboard that has simplified layouts is key. You will be typing with this device and you wouldn’t want to be changing keyboard layouts each time you set out to buy a laptop. Also, modern technology has made things exciting to use by adding backlits to keypads. This doesn’t necessarily doesn’t add to the beauty of the design. It enhances your ability to see keys fast when typing or doing some homework.

The backlight may not be of great importance as long as the keyboard layout is simple and the keypads are easy and responsive on touch.

RAM

I wouldn’t skip out on this title. As a student, you should consider buying a laptop that has 8GB of RAM as a minimum. This is because the workload of college is tedious. Sometimes, you will need to open many applications, as well as so many tabs on browsers to find the answer for your homework or project. A superior RAM size makes it easier for you to browse without the system lagging. Another important factor to consider is how well the laptop can retain many files. We will look at that in the next heading.

Storage

It’s better to save enough money in order to buy a laptop that has good storage capacity. You wouldn’t want to buy

a laptop with low storage and then buy an external storage device. It ain’t worth it. Never go for a system with low storage capacity. When I was a student at the university, I bought a good laptop that was cheap neglecting the storage sense. It wasn’t quite long I began to realize the effect of low storage as it could no longer contain more files.

We’ve looked at the buying guide, lets now decide which laptop will be suitable for you.

ASUS has been the best laptop for most students in America, Asia, and Europe because if its portability and the ability to use it with ease. The display on the Surface Pro 6 is noticeably better than that of the Surface Pro 4 for one reason: contrast ratio.

The blacks are darker and everything is just more vibrant. There is also an sRGB color mode if you are interested in editing photos or videos. In addition, backlight bleed is virtually non-existent which was a minor issue on the SP4. The display also gets quite a bit brighter than that of the SP4 which helps significantly in outdoor use.

The reason I say this is that the product has built-in customization for musical performance and the sound quality is astonishing. The sound is rich, base filled and loud. Probably second to none when it comes to audio and sounds.

CPU: 8th Generation Intel Core i5 | RAM: 16GB | Storage: 1TB | Display: 15.6 inches anti-glare Full HD NanoEdge display | Battery: 5 hours

Another 8th generation core I5 suitable for gaming. A very nice machine which satisfies your gaming experience. Every student likes game including me – when I was a student. Games of Thrones, Star Wars, and Pillars of Eternity.

However, buying the best laptops suitable for games isn’t a wise decision. So we often look for laptops that are also affordable and can satisfy our gaming desire. If you are one like this, then you might want to consider this laptop when choosing.

=====

  • The updated LG gram arrives with an impressive 15.6” 1080p IPS display and improved 72Wh battery with up to 19 hours of battery life, in a laptop that weighs less than 2.5 pounds.
  • The performance level is utilized for comparison purposes only and does not necessarily reflect the battery life that will be achieved. This makes the battery consumption reduced.
  • Adding to its uniqueness, it has a backlit keyboard which every modern student want, incorporated in their laptop. This backlit keyboard will help you work in a low lighted environment.
  • The Full HD IPS display supports a broad color gamut to deliver lifelike picture quality.

The LG gram is more than ready for the rigors of real-world use. It’s passed seven industry-standard tests to prove its military-grade durability. The premium nano carbon magnesium full metal body is tougher than the shell of conventional laptops, yet it’s still remarkably light-weight.

Cheapest place to buy: Amazon

The Ideapad is an okay laptop depending on what you want to use it for. With the 1 TB storage capacity, you will hardly complain of inadequate storage or related problems.

However, with the beautiful screen resolution and light-weight, the battery is very limited compared to other laptops.

So if you are thinking of buying a nicely designed laptop having the preliminary features like storage and RAM, you would consider this. We believe there will be an upgrade of this product by Lenovo.

Pros

  • Very affordable.
  • It has a responsive and comfortable keyboard.
  • The sound is much better than you see on budget laptops. Sound quality sometimes hikes the price of some laptops but the Lenovo Ideapad is very affordable and still has quality sound production.
  • Very fast in booting. Many times, we might not have too much patience in waiting for a laptop to use 2 mins to boot. However, if booting takes longer than expected, it could be a little frustrating.
  • It runs multiple programs without any hiccup.

Cons

  • Limited battery capacity. Although, this is the major con of the Ideapad. Once you can defeat this by taking the adapter always with you, you definitely will enjoy buying it.
